Universal Records announced on Friday the 08th of May that Rutger Gunnersson, who was known for his bass playing on ABBA records and tours, passed away at the age of 69.

The cause of the death of Rutger Gunnersson has not been revealed yet. He did pass away at his home in Stockholm.

“Rutger was most known for his long and close collaboration with Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and ABBA, having worked on all their albums, singles,  tours, films and musicals,” Universal said in a statement.

On ABBA’s Facebook Page they paid tribute to Rutger. He produced many of the band’s work. Gunnarsson was a great musician, dear friend and a colleague.

Beside ABBA, Rutger Gunnarsson also collaborated with global names like Celine Dion,Elton John, Gwen Stefani, Westlife, Adam Ant and Bobbysocks, and others. 

The great bass player fans are specifically fond of his parts in such hits like “Knowing Me Knowing You“, “Money, Money, Money” and “Dancing Queen“. The members of ABBA, Agnetha Fältskog, 65, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, 69, Andersson, 68 and Ulvaeus 70 have’t played music together since 1986.

ABBA’s post also said ‘Rutger’s three children, Rickard, Mimmi and Joanna, all mourn their father along with a music world that suffers the loss of a great musician, colleague and a dear, dear friend,’.
