Got an extra $5,000? Great, Boom is looking to build commercial aircraft to offer trans-Atlantic roundtrips for a roughly $5,000. There will be room for 40 passengers. By joining up with Virgin for this project, Richard Branson’s empire has invested in the startup Boom to make this supersonic commercial flight possible for the first time since Concorde fell out of service 13 years ago.

You could easily wake up in New York, take your kids to school, go to airport, be in London by lunch time, do your business meetings, and still be back home for dinner time with your family. What an amazing option. You will no longer need to stay in a hotel. But yeah, you would need to take in consideration the ticket price of $5,000. But at the same time people who do need this kind of option, they sure will have the cash to pay for it too. Anyways the price would be about the price of ordinary business class.

Mach 2.2 jet would fly at 60,000 feet to take advantage of the thin atmosphere. Also a great height that would allow the passengers to see the curvature of the Earth.

Richard has long expressed interest in developing high-speed flight and building high speed flight R&D through Virgin Galactic and our manufacturing organization, The Spaceship Company,” said the Virgin Group spokeswoman. “We can confirm that The Spaceship Company will provide engineering, design and manufacturing services, flight tests and operations and that we have an option on the first 10 airframes. It is still early days and just the start of what you’ll hear about our shared ambitions and efforts.

Guardian reported that Virgin signed a deal to buy 10 of the planes from Boom founder Blake Scholl. The development of the prototypes of these amazing planes is based in Colorado. Beside that the company has reportedly signed a $2 billion (€1.75bn) deal with an unnamed London airline to help it develop its own planes.

This isn’t science fiction, we are actually doing this. You will be able to fly New York to London in three-and-a-half hours for $5,000 (€4,390) return,” he Scholl.

This is supersonic passenger air travel, no bullshit, and it’s actually affordable.
