Coffee better than Viagra?

Caffeine better than viagra

Just grab a coffee while reading this article, as I did while writing it. A research has shown yet another benefit of coffee. Beside many benefits, it’s also proved that coffee is beneficial for the heart patients, as it lowers the risk of heart failure.

So, is coffee better than Viagra? The Health Science Center of Houston came out with a study where they defined that men who drink one or two mugs of coffee a day are less likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).

One mug of instant coffee contains about 100mg of caffeine, a mug of filter coffee about 140mg. Also a cup of tea and a can of cola contain 75mg and 40mg, respectively.

With the research they found out that men who drank between 85mg and 170mg (2-3 mugs) of caffeine daily were 42 per cent less likely to report impotence compared to those who drank none. Those who drank between 171 and 303mg of caffeine were 39 per cent less likely.

Dr. David Lopez (Dr.P.H., M.P.H.), who works as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston (UTHealth), said: “Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, so this was not surprising”.

How?

Suggested biological mechanism is that caffeine triggers a series of pharmacological effects that lead to the relaxation of the penile helicine arteries and the cavernous smooth muscle that lines cavernosal spaces, thus increasing penile blood flow,” added Dr. Lopez.

Caffeine or Viagra?

It’s up to you to decide which you prefer. If you don’t like coffee, you might want to go for other drinks that have caffeine. Or go it for the “blue pill” which is just a bit easier to consume.

At the same time there’s a bad news for men with diabetes. Dr. Lopez mentioned: “Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of ED with men who were obese, and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for ED, so this was not surprising”.

Where’s my coffee re-fill again? Sorry guys but I’m off to get another mug of coffee and to another article. How much coffee do you drink a day?
